The Most Environmentally Friendly Airport In Europe "Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport International Terminal"

As a result of Environmental Projects and successful ecological implementations at Adnan Menderes Airport - International Terminal, TAV Izmir has been presented the first "Eco-Innovation Award" by Airports Council International Europe (ACI Europe).

At the competition held by Airports Council International Europe (ACI Europe), TAV Izmir, which operates the International Terminal at Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport, was the proud winner of the "Eco-Innovation Award" in recognition of its environmental efforts, including the successful implementation of projects, displaying the greatest sensitivity to the environment amongst European Airports, and for its contribution to environmental innovations.

At the award ceremony, which took place during the gala dinner held in Milan on Thursday, M. Sani Şener, CEO of TAV Airports Holding, accepted the award on behalf of TAV Izmir. He said, "TAV Airports is developing sustainable policies and following the the most recent environmental implementations in all the cities and regions in which we operate. We have developed various projects within the framework of environmental awareness. The first "Eco-Innovation Award," presented by Airports Council International Europe (ACI Europe) to TAV Izmir for developing and implementing the best environmental management policies at the International Terminal of Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport, has demonstrated the important contributions Turkey is making to the Environment."

Şener, reminded the audience that Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport also received a "First Level Carbon Neutrality Certificate" by ACI Europe last year. He continued, "The award we receive today is an indication of our commitment to our environmental management policy and the emphasis we put on environmental projects."

Şener also highlighted that according to The IPPC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) aviation’s total carbon dioxide emissions account for 5% of global emissions’ impact on climate change, and of that figure, airports’ own operations only account for up to 2%. He continued, "With the Accreditation Program that ACI Europe has launched, we have seen a reduction of 411,390 tons carbon dioxide within a year of European Airports taking part in the program. This is a very significant rate. We will also be doing our share as a leading company operating 10 airports."

Tav Izmir has also recently qualified for the title "Yeşiliş Kuruluş" by fulfilling all requirements set by the Civil Aviation Directorate General as a result of its successful implementations of environmentally friendly projects.

TAV Izmir was also the first airport in Turkey and second in Europe accepted to the Airport Carbon Accreditation Program launched by ACI Europe. In 2008, TAV Izmir was also presented the "EBSO Environment Committee Special Award" at the Environmental Award Competition held by EBSO (Aegean Region Chamber of Industry) as well as the "Environmental Airport of the Year" award at the Doha Aviation Summit.
